From as far back as I can remember the bath has always been one of my favorite places to be. However, in my early teens I became so stressed out that I would stay in the bathtub for hours, adding essential oils to help me relax and sleep. This got me thinking about the physical and psychological benefits of scent. I "borrowed" one of my mothers' aromatherapy books, and since then I have had a passion for the luxurious, relaxing and healing power of aromatherapy.
I prefer simplicity and natural, organic treatments over chemically concocted extravagance, and Effusions is my personally made line of essential oil products designed to help us return to the basics of beauty and skin care regiments without feeling plain, dull or ordinary.
The use of aromatic and perfumed oils dates back thousands of years to ancient civilizations including the Chinese, who were the first to compile an encyclopedia of information on this subject. Aromatherapy is the therapeutic or homeopathic use of essential oils extracted from plants, flowers, fruits and woods to improve health and alter moods. In India aromatic massage was part of ancient medicinal practice, and the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans are historically known for using fragrant oils in medical treatments as well as cosmetic uses.
Ironically, after thousands of years, aromatherapy is still practiced by individuals and healthcare practitioners alike, as both an alternative as well as a compliment to modern medicine. Essential oils act upon us both through our sense of smell and by absorption through the skin, in turn affecting us physiologically (heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, etc.) as well as emotionally (anxiety, depression, stress, etc.). Unlike synthetic fragrances, which are created in chemical laboratories, essential oils provide the 100% natural components necessary to support the whole wellness of the body, mind and spirit.
